A student in the Distinguished Achievement Program is required to complete twenty-four
(24) credits, including:
English language arts (4 credits)
Mathematics (3 credits)
Science (3 credits)
Social studies (3 1/2 credits)
Economics (1/2 credit)
Languages other than English
(3 credits)
Physical education (1 1/2 credits)
Health education
(1/2 credit)
Technology app. (1 credit)
Fine arts (1 credit)
Speech (1/2 credit)
Additional components
(2 1/2 credits)
Permission to complete the Minimum Program will be granted only if an agreement is
reached among:
The student;
The students parent or person standing in parental relation; and
The counselor or appropriate administrator.
Beginning with the 2007-2008 school year, a student entering the ninth grade will be
affected by the new state graduation requirements for the Recommended Program
and the Distinguished Achievement (Advanced) Program. To graduate under either
of these programs, an incoming ninth grade student will have to earn an additional
credit in math and an additional credit in science.
Certificates of Coursework Completion
A certificate of coursework completion will be issued to a senior student who
successfully completes state and local credit requirements for graduation, but fails to
perform satisfactorily on the exit-level examination. Those students will be allowed to
participate in the graduation exercise.
Students with Disabilities
Upon the recommendation of the admission, review, and dismissal committee, a student
with disabilities may be permitted to graduate under the provisions of his or her
individual education plan (IEP).
Graduation and Senior Activities
Baccalaureate Services and Commencement Exercises: The superintendent will contact
all speakers and platform guests involved in the program for these graduation events.
Caps and Gowns: The school will pay rental on caps and gowns for graduation. Students
who wish to buy an extra tassel or cap must pay for them.
